First I want to comment on the tragic news from Stevens Pass last Sunday, with the avalanche that took the lives of three, very experienced, Stevens Pass locals. Almost every week in my newsletters I restate the CK Ski School rule that none of our participants are permitted to venture out of the Stevens Pass resort boundaries. While the Stevens Pass Ski Patrol, does an amazing job of making the inbounds area of Stevens Pass safe and virtually avalanche free for all of us to enjoy, all out of bounds areas are uncontrolled and, as was proven last weekend, can be very dangerous for even the most experienced mountain professionals. I hope you will join me in sending our thoughts and prayers to the Stevens Pass “family” as they deal with this loss. However, yes indeed, it is week 8 and our last trip this Saturday. What a great year we have had, and what a sweet Saturday tomorrow is shaping up to be. The forecast is calling for a cold winter day for our last outing, with perhaps a bit of fresh snow. Make sure you are helmeted and goggled up, and ride with care. Speaking of helmets, goggles, clothes and such, I have a number of lost and found items that I have accumulated over the season, so see me on the ferry Saturday morning (and again in the afternoon), where I will have my lost and found bag. Find the things you’ve been missing. 2011/2012 has been an outstanding ski school year ~ an amazingly fun adventure. This is largely due to the excellent attitude and mature behavior of you, our participants. We are a big group - 260 strong on our biggest days. I think we appear a little overwhelming at times to the general public. That is why it is so important and much appreciated when everybody in the program acts in a respectful and appropriate manner on the bus, the ferry, and the mountain. Remember that school infractions like inappropriate displays of affection, profanity, or defiance, are also ski school infractions. CK Ski School is a CK School District sponsored activity, and all expectations that apply at school apply at ski school too.
So our last official day on the mountain will be a free ski/ride day with no lessons. Remember in potential ski days, this ski season is barely half over, and all you seasons-pass holders have access to the mountain until the scheduled closing on April 15. For tomorrow, remember to ride safe, stay inbounds, and stay with your buddy. Take in the grandeur, fill your lungs with the sweet mountain air, help each other out, and smile frequently, ‘cause it’s all good. See you in the morning ~ Mr. Keller, The Ski School Guy |
